From a reading for my human rights class:

"Our society forbids gay people to marry, denies us equal pay for equal work, throws us off the job, forbids us from serving our country in the armed forces, refuses us health insurance, forces us into the closet, arrests us in our bedrooms, harasses our daily associations, takes away our children, beats and kills us in the streets and parks, smothers images of ourselves and others like us, and then tells us we are irresponsible, unstable, and aberrant." - Evan Wolfson

I think that pretty much sums it up.

I'm really excited to start writing my Master's thesis, which will be on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

I am so so proud of Virginia. I didn't think it'd happen, but I held out hope even when we were 10 points behind tonight.

I've been awake for 20+ hours, so I'm a little delirious. I worked at the polls from 5:00am to 8:30pm today to help people vote. It was amazing to see the amount of young voters, and older people who had never cared to vote before, vote for the first time today for something they cared SO much about. I helped a 102 year old woman cast her ballot. I helped 18 year olds cast their first ballots. An 88 year old woman gave me a huge hug after I helped her vote because "her daughter wouldn't even take her to the polls." I have so much respect for all the people who came out despite the missed work, disabilities, poor weather, etc.

I saw PRESIDENT Obama speak last year, when he was still working toward the Democratic nomination, and I am so happy to say that I've supported him since then.

I am so happy right now.

This is so fucked up. I know it's sometimes just a joke, and this isn't the first time it's happened...but really.

One of the funniest things I've ever seen. I was crying the first time I watched it, I was laughing so hard.

This makes me both very happy and very sad.

I'm feeling hectic and stressful and broke and angry. Not that I haven't been doing fun things, I've gone out more lately than I usually do, I just feel very unfulfilled at the moment. Hopefully this will get better soon.

For the last 1,065 days (exactly) of my life, I have never gone more than a day without at least talking to him. It's so hard to stop now. I feel like I've lost a limb.

All of a sudden, there are fireflies everywhere. It's like they know that it is now officially summer.

IS SUCH BULLSHIT. I can't believe they are seriously considering seating any of the FL and MI delegates. That's ridiculous. The only way that would be remotely fair would be to hold a second set of elections in those states. Obama wasn't even on the ballot in MI because those votes weren't supposed to be counted! Ughhhh politics.

I never use this thing anymore but I'm pretty bored and in denial that school is about to start again, so I started going through all of my pictures from this summer. Once again all of these look better before photobucket resizes them, but oh well.

This is going to be long )

So I just found out that I'm related to a Pope. Clement X, to be more specific. Unfortunately he was pretty unremarkable, as far as Popes go.

I did, however, find this interesting:

On April 29, 1670, the papacy was offered to him by fifty-nine Cardinals present at the election; only two being against him. He, however, objected because of his age, for he was eighty, and exclaimed, "I am too old to bear such a burden." Pointing to Cardinal Brancacci, Altieri said he was the Cardinal whom they ought to elect. He persisted in refusing, protesting that he no longer had strength or memory; but he was crowned on May 11. He was dragged from his bed screaming "I don't want to be the Pope!!!" with tears he accepted, and out of gratitude to his benefactor, by ten years his junior, he assumed the name of Clement X.

Awesome.

So I've been inspired by Shauna's recent post to post pictures of our new house. My dad bought it, so this is where I will be living for atleast the next three years of my life, probably including all summers after this one.

Julie, Will, and I are living there next year.

I wish I had better pictures, but I didn't bring my camera when we went so the only ones I have are from the real estate agent's site.

our beautiful house! )

While digging through boxes looking for pictures for something totally unrelated, I came across this.

This is the most beautiful, powerful picture I think I've ever seen.

Maybe you had to know my mom.

But this is where she always wanted to be.

It's perfect.
